A day of meetings

In the following I explain the day of meetings at DR, focusing on the scheduled meetings related to the two evening news bulletins at TV Avisen.

The table in Fig. 4.8 lists the daily meetings related to the two evening news bulletins (broadcast at 6.30PM and at 9PM every day) at the time of my first visit to DR in 2007. I have chosen to use DR as a case study to continue the insight into the DR newsroom that was commenced in the introduction of this chapter. It should be noted that I could just as well have chosen one of the other three newsrooms, as the type of meetings and the timings of them are very similar. At each newsroom, the staff appeared to believe that they had many more meetings than they would have had they been working at the other newsrooms. At ITV, for instance, one of the PAs responsible for the roster told me that all the meetings at ITV and BBC are ‘a British thing for sure. Nowhere else, internationally do they have so many meetings. The reason we have a lot of meetings here is that a lot of people who work here used to work at BBC and so they just carried on the structure’ (ITV Newsroom, 22 October 2007, ITV Field Diary 1: 75). However, the list of the average amount of everyday editorial meetings related to the news bulletin revealed there to be eight to ten meetings a day at all the newsrooms.
